What is Sweet Tea Extract?
Chinese Sweet Tea is a traditional Chinese herbal tea, made from the leaves of Chinese Blackberry
Leaf (Rubus suavissimus). These leaves contain a natural sweetener, called Rubusoside, which is
300 times as sweet as cane sugar. Sweet Tea has a special taste, mellow flavor, quenching thirst, is a

Anti-cariogenic:Streptococcus mutans plays an important role in the development of dental caries in humans by synthesizing
adhesive insoluble glucans from sucrose by mutansucrase activity. Rubusoside (50 mM) showed 97% inhibitory activity against
0.1 U/mL mutansucrase of S. mutans with 500 mM sucrose. It showed competitive inhibition with a Ki value of 1.1 ± 0.2 mM and
IC50 of 2.3 mM. Its inhibition activity was due to hydrophobic and hydrogen bonding interactions based on molecular docking
analysis. Rubusoside inhibited the growth of S. mutans as a bacteriostatic agent, with MIC and MBC values of 6 mM and 8 mM,
espectively. In addition, Rubusoside showed synergistic anti-bacterial activity when it was combined with curcumin. Therefore,
Rubusoside is a natural anti-cariogenic agent with anti-mutansucrase activity and antimicrobial activity against S. mutans.
Reduce Blood Glucose: T2DM mice models were established with a combination of streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneal injection
and high-fat diet. After 10 weeks of rubusoside intragastric administration (100, 200 mg/kg/day) to the mice, the body weight, fasting
blood glucose, glucose tolerance, and blood lipids were measured. The liver protein expression levels of p-AMPK, GLUT2, GLUT4
and total antioxidant capacity were also investigated.After 10 weeks of rubusoside administration, the levels of blood glucose and
lipids were decreased in T2DM mice. These results demonstrate that rubusoside could be used as an anti-diabetic candidate drug,
and that its hypoglycemic mechanism might be related to the activation of adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein
kinase (AMPK) to modulate the expression of GLUT2 and GLUT4. Finally, rubusoside could also increase total antioxidant capacity to
protect the liver from oxidative stress
ToxicologyAcute oral toxicity test of sweet tea extract was carried out on mice with LD50>21500mg/kg. The rats were given
5000mg/kg, 10000mg/kg, 20000mg/kg.bw sweet tea extract for 30 days, and no toxicity was observed.There were no
significant differences in animal body weight, Chemicalbook weight, food utilization, hematology and blood
biochemistry index values, and viscera/body ratio between each dose group and blank control group (P>0.05).There
were no abnormal changes in appearance, morphology and histology of major organs. The results showed that sweet
tea had no obvious toxicity to the growth and development, hematopoietic function, liver and kidney function and
organ tissue of rats..
